I like the nice, clean look of the new site. Nice work getting this going.
Scott,
Love the reporting. Hope you and your family are well. Look forward to seeing you again soon.
Best,
Rob Poitras
I like it web site, nice and clean and simple, the way it should be. I like the What’s-a-Burger picture. Seems like yesterday….

Great website, first time to visit it. Your report on conditions past few months most interesting. My comment: Surfers are eternal optimists, just the nature of the beast I venture to say. I’m living proof as an old timer (53 y. o.) having lived and surfed as a young boy in Hawaii for 4 years, Philipines for 1 year, Taiwan for 2 years and visits around the world since. Hatteras on a good day has its moments… Keep up the outstanding work you guys do…
I was trying to find the telephone number for the surf report down in Buxton and found this website. After reading comments made by other website browsers, I must say this is one of the best sites I have ever had the opportunity to view. Keep up the excellent work!
Hey Scott,
Wrapping up my work over here in Thailand. I had a fun surf trip last week in Bali. I stayed with Ashley Heath and his family there at Ulus. Great time. It looks like you’re having fun with the new site, and everyone seems to be receiving it well. I’ll be back home in Sept for Labor Day, so I’ll make sure I see you then (if you’re around). Say hello to Carol for me. Take care.
Hi picked up a in the eye board 6′41/2″ x 17″ x 2 3/16ths, in Kings Beach, Calif.
#966484 clark (but cant read the last name)can you tell me anything about it?
Hey Scott love the website start! I just performed some ding repair on a 8′0 bought from you from when I lived down there in 1990 and 1991! The way to remember me is I worked on the Ferry and my Dad was a State Trooper! Bought the 8′0 and at the same time you customed shaped a 6′2 with IRIE MAN on the bottom! Getting ready in South Florida for some Hurricane Bill ground swell surf! Hope to get back your way one day to have another board shaped but this time for me something for a older guy with about 15 pounds attached! Surf’s up and great chatting to you!!!
Are you in California still? I have a 6′4 for sale that’s only been ridden a few times if you’re interested.
Hey Scott -
I’m the lazy SOB who contacted ya a couple of seasons back wanting to interview ya for JUICE Magazine. Believe it or not, I still wanna get around to getting something on you & IN THE EYE
in print, as well as another board shaped. Basically, kept getting put on hold by the editors (even
tried emailing pruett @ ESM to see if they were interested, he never even responded), then I was out
of the Mid Atlantic area. (I know, “excuses, excuses”) Anyhow, my apologies, but hopefully we can
“git er dun” sometime, I think you’re one of the unsung heroes of east coast surfing/shaping, & deserve some additional accolades. The board I bought from your shop many, many moons ago can honestly qualify as “magic”. It’s yellow, delamed, I gave up on dings way back, but I still will break it out for fun sunny summer days @ Assateague, and be as stoked as anybody in the lineup!
Hi guys!!! I write from Chile… I was in OBX in sept. 2007 I bought some Stuff there.. You’ve a great surf shop…
I talk all the time whit my friends about your store in the cape…
Thanks
from southamerica
Scott:
Am between boat gigs, was out in the backyard shed checking boards, got me thinking… Instead of dealing with editors/advertisers/industry politics, how about we use this online forums for some
Q & A? Call it Ask the Shaping Bay, or something -
First thing I’d pose off the bat is, WHAT’S YOUR STANCE ON SUP’s? Me personally I feel there’s a place for them say, in most spots that aren’t breaking; Sure, there’s a history there, & it’s good to see guys like Gerry Lopez & Mickey Munoz get some props for their involvement & designs, but c’mon, surfing them at the Wedge??? DO YOU FEEL THE PRESSURE NOT ONLY AS A SHAPER, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY AS A RETAILER, TO THROW YOUR HAT IN THE RING WITH BIG BOX WATERSPORTS STORES, & ALL OF THE STOCK GARBAGE FROM ASIA???
2nd, WITH WOOD PLANKS ALAIA & “CASPER, MINI-SIMMONS, WHITE PONYS, ETC” TAKING RETRO TO AN ALL TIME DEGREE OF DISTILLATION, WHEN DOES A MOVEMENT BECOME A PARODY OF ITSELF? WILL THE DAY COME WHEN MY DAD’S OLD SURF MAT WILL FETCH ABSURD AMOUNTS OF DOLLARS & BE AWED & OOOHED OVER AT THE AB3 FISH FRY OCMD???
3, Which, by extension, leads us into the “young guns” guru shapers of the moment mythology; Or, rather, what’s in a name? The familiar maxim that “a little education is very dangerous” comes to mind when pondering the necessity of sending hard earned dollars cross-country in order to enrich a marketing genius at the expense of some locals who deserve it. HOW CAN YOU GET THROUGH TO THE HERD MENTALITY IN CONVINCING THEM THAT JUST BECAUSE A BOARD SAYS CHANNEL ISLANDS ON IT, IT DOESN”T MEAN THAT IT GOES OFF IN 2 FT SLOP @ PEA ISLAND?? I once witnessed a numbskull in FL twice what he would’ve paid a local shaper just so he could have a board that said (Bill) Stewart on it. I told him he should’ve got 2 boards from the FL shaper & 2 stickers from the surf shop.
4 Greg Loehr once posted on Swaylocks that you made a killer twinzer back in the day, and that it probably was better in NC conditions than a quad. I know the subject is infinite, but COULD YOU EXPLAIN A LITTLE MORE FULLY YOUR TAKE ON FIN APPLICATIONS/DECISIONS REGARDING KEELS, BONZERS, SINGLE-FINS, & SIMON ANDERSON”S INVALUABLE THRUSTER? KIND OF DISPEL THE PSEUDOSCIENCE SOME? HOW ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PAVEL SPEEDIALER VS HANEL LOWBOY IN DRIVE, LOOSENESS, ETC?
Anyhow, that’s about it for now. Power of the internet can transcend distance, space, time, & publishing deadlines – Got lots more for ya, god willing (& the creek don’t rise).
Aloha,
Daylin
